Babatunde Irukera, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, FCCPC, today, led the Commission’s team on a visit to the DG, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, in Abuja.
Both chief executives held high-level discussions on competition and consumer protection issues in the aviation industry.
Irukera said during the meeting that the two agencies must hold domestic airlines accountable and ensure that international carriers treat Nigerian consumers fairly.
He praised the harmonious working relationship between the FCCPC and the NCAA, pointing out that overlap of regulations is neither an error nor a problem, but a design.
According to him, countries prioritise areas that matter to them and put a number of regulators there to protect the interest of their consumers, stating further that it is the duty of the regulators to figure out ways to work harmoniously.
Capt. Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, DG, NCAA, acknowledged that there are so many non-aviation actors whose actions affect the industry significantly, while expressing delight at the regulatory engagement between FCCPC and his agency.
Both organisations agreed to constitute a joint technical team to work on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for their seamless collaboration.
Irukera was accompanied on the visit by FCCPC’s Executive Commissioner, Operations, Dr. Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services, Mr. Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi and some top management staff of the Commission, while the NCAA team included Hajia Bilikisu Adamu Sani, Director, Finance and Accounts, Grp Capt. (Rtd) Oyo-Ita, Director, Air Transport Regulation, Mr. Ahmed Abbas Sanusi, Director, Human Resources and Admin, and other top management staff.
