Chief Theophilus Adeboye Sunday Oyebiyi is a Non-Executive Commissioner, North Central, of the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Chief Oyebiyi holds a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Ilorin in 1985, a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Technology and Management from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in 2004, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the Uthman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, in 2008.
Chief Oyebiyi worked briefly in the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, University of Ilorin, from 1985 to 1986, and went on to work as a part time Assistant Lecturer in the Department of General Studies, Modern European Languages, in the same university, from 1986 to 1987. Within that period, he had worked briefly as Language Master II under the Kwara State Education Management Board.
Chief Oyebiyi began his political career, upon his exit from the Kwara State Civil Service in 1987. He was first appointed as Supervisory Councilor for Works, Moro Local Government Area, from 1987 to 1989, and thereafter went on to serve as Executive Chairman for the same Local Government Area, from 1990 to 1993. Between 1996 and 1998, Chief Oyebiyi had served as the Kwara State Chairman, Grassroot Democratic Movement (GDM). Going by his outstanding performance, he was re-elected for a second term as Executive Chairman, Moro Local Government Area, from 1999 to 2002. He later rose quickly to become the Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State from 2014 to 2018. Chief Oyebiyi is a renowned politician of Kwara descent, whose name and reputation precedes him. He is currently the Kwara State Vice Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), a position he has held from 2018 till date.
Chief Oyebiyi has a number of unpublished papers to his credit. Some of them are: The Phonology of Niten, 1985, Nasality in Niten, 1986, The Place of Igbomina in the Classification of Yoruba Dialects, 1987, Technology and Rural Development, 2001, and Supervisory Methods and Secondary School Teachers’ Job Performance in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, 2008.
Chief Oyebiyi was born in Budo-Oke, Pakunma Ward of Moro Local Government area of Kwara State. He attended ECWA LSMB School, Elesinmeta, in 1973, and Government Secondary School, Malete, in 1979, for his primary and secondary education respectively. He is happily married and is blessed with children, and grandchildren.
